Why now

The rules are changing, and the paperwork falls on the family.

6 April 2027

Most unused pensions start to count towards inheritance tax. Pension nominations suddenly matter.

£325,000

The tax-free allowance. It has not risen since 2009 and is frozen until at least April 2031.

7 years

How far back executors must trace gifts for HMRC. Most families never wrote them down.

Organise it · The family record

Built around the family, not just the paperwork.

Most families' plans are spread across a solicitor's drawer, a pension letter and one person's memory. Ordo Legacy brings them together for the whole household, and keeps them current as life changes.

  • Set up for the people involvedFor yourself, as a couple, or with your parents. Whoever signs up organises it, and can invite up to three family members to help.
  • Everything in one recordWhere the original will is kept, LPAs, deeds, policies, accounts and pensions, each with a traffic-light status.
  • Prompts when life changesA marriage, a new grandchild, a house move or a pension transfer is checked against the will, the LPAs and the tax position.
  • A hospital sheet on your phoneMedicines, conditions, allergies, GP and next of kin on one page you can show at A&E.

Make it · Wills and powers of attorney

Fill the gaps the check finds, without booking an appointment.

When a will or LPA is missing or out of date, you can put it right inside Ordo Legacy, using details already in your record. A qualified solicitor checks every will.

Wills

£120 single£195 mirror wills for a couple
  • Plain questions online, about 20 minutes
  • Reviewed by a solicitor within 2 working days
  • A signing pack so it is witnessed correctly
  • Prompted for a review when life changes

Getting married usually cancels an existing will in England and Wales. Ordo Legacy flags it when you record a marriage.

Lasting powers of attorney

£99 per LPAplus the Office of the Public Guardian's £92 fee
  • Property and financial affairs, and health and welfare
  • Checked for the mistakes that get forms sent back
  • Signing order explained for everyone involved
  • Sent for registration; the registered copy sits in your record

An LPA can only be made while you still have mental capacity. Without one, the family may need a Court of Protection order.

Wills with trusts, business or farm property, foreign assets, or care fee planning are referred to a specialist solicitor, with a quote before any work starts.

Plan it · Inheritance tax

See what the family could pay, and the allowances you can still use.

Most families don't know whether their estate will pay inheritance tax. From 6 April 2027 the answer changes for many of them, because most unused pensions start to count. Ordo Legacy keeps a running estimate from what you record, and keeps the records your executors will need.

  • Your positionYour estate, including pensions, against the £325,000 nil-rate band, up to £175,000 more when the home goes to children or grandchildren, and any allowance a late spouse didn't use.
  • Gifts to children and grandchildrenAllowances in plain figures: £3,000 a year, £250 small gifts, wedding gifts. Seven-year clocks on larger gifts.
  • Regular gifts from incomeFully exempt with no upper limit, but only with records. The app keeps them.
  • AlertsMissing pension nominations, an estate nearing £2 million, or a charity gift that could cut the rate from 40% to 36%.
Worked example

Margaret and Peter

Estate, including pensions£1,120,000
Tax-free allowances on the second death− £1,000,000
Taxed at 40%£120,000
Estimated inheritance tax£48,000

They still have £1,000 of this year's £3,000 gift allowance. Their £20,000 gift to Sam falls outside the estate in June 2028.

Estimates use the figures you enter and the rules for England and Wales as at October 2026. They are information, not tax advice. We don't recommend investments, insurance or trusts.

Hand it over · Executors

When someone dies, the family isn't starting from nothing.

Named executors get access in two stages: enough to start once we have verified the death certificate, and full access once we have seen the grant of probate. Everything the family recorded is already there.

Members get 20% off. Complex estates are quoted in full before you commit. Probate applications go through a regulated partner.

  1. Who to tellBanks, pension providers and insurers, with letters drafted from the record.
  2. What it's worthAssets valued at the date of death, most of them already listed.
  3. Inheritance taxThe forms, the gift history and the deadline: tax is due by the end of the sixth month after the death.
  4. Estate accountsKept as you go, ready to share with the family.
Your record, your rules

Private by default. Shared only when you say so.

Families share some things and not others. Ordo Legacy is built around that.

  • You choose at every entryEach time you add something, you decide who can see it. Nothing is shared with a spouse or partner unless you allow it.
  • Couples keep separate recordsLinked, but separate. When the first of you dies, the other's record carries on unchanged.
  • An access log nobody can editEvery view is recorded. You and the person who organises the family account can see who looked at what, and when.
  • Executors are checked twiceLimited access once we have verified a death certificate. Full access only once we have seen the grant of probate.

About

Built to make your life easier.

Most estates that go wrong do so for ordinary reasons: a pension nobody knew about, a gift nobody wrote down, a will in a drawer nobody could find. Each one costs the family time and money at the worst possible moment.

Ordo Legacy is designed to fix those things years before they matter, at a price a family can justify.

Questions

Things people ask before they start.

Who should set it up?

Anyone. People set it up for themselves, as a couple, or for their parents with their agreement. Whoever signs up is the organiser and can do the work themselves or invite others to help. Delegating tasks is optional.

Who can see my information?

Only the people you choose, entry by entry. Your partner sees nothing of yours unless you share it. Every view is recorded in an access log that nobody, including us, can edit.

How do executors get access after a death?

In two stages. Once we have verified the death certificate, named executors can see what they need to start: who to tell, where the will is and what accounts exist. Full access to values and documents follows once we have seen the grant of probate, or letters of administration if there was no will.

Will Ordo Legacy reduce our inheritance tax?

It shows where you stand and which allowances you are using or missing, and keeps the records that let your executors claim them. Many families pay more than they need to because gifts weren't recorded or allowances went unused. We don't sell tax schemes or financial products.

Who checks my will?

A qualified solicitor reviews every will before you sign it. If your wishes need something more complex, such as a trust, we tell you and refer you before any work starts.

Do I need a will and an LPA?

Yes, they do different jobs. A will deals with what happens after you die. An LPA lets someone act for you while you are alive but can't manage your affairs yourself.

What happens to my pension from April 2027?

Most unused pension funds will count towards your estate for inheritance tax. Your nomination tells the provider who should receive the money, so it matters more than before. Ordo Legacy checks you have one for each pension.

Is this tax or legal advice?

No. The app gives you information and estimates based on what you enter, with the rules explained in plain English and links to HMRC guidance. Wills are reviewed by a qualified solicitor.

We live in Scotland or Northern Ireland. Can we use it?

Not yet. Wills, powers of attorney and estate administration work differently there. Join the list below and we will tell you when we cover your area.

Can we keep our own solicitor?

Yes. Record your existing will and powers of attorney, note where the originals are kept and who drew them up. You only pay for the family plan.

Where is our data kept?

In the UK, encrypted, and handled by a company set up only for this purpose. It is never sold or used for advertising.
